"Crazy Quilts", Puzzle Patches and Fanciful Embroidery Exhibit Opens

Crazy Quilts” features a collection of nearly 50 quilts, garments and other items made with the crazy quilting method, most dating from 1880 to 1920. The exhibit is organized by guest curator, quilter and storyteller Anita Sheneberger who spent more than four months traveling the back roads of Western Washington to acquire this rare collection of quilts.

Denny Swanson and his Saw Mill
As he said, it was love at first sight: a behemoth of a machine, covered in blackberry vines, rust and in need of a good home. Retired pilot Denny Swanson fires up his sawmill and shows how he made 18 foot cedar planks for the barn at the Mary Olson Farm.
Ken Bradford on downtown Auburn and Massey’s Super Market
Visit historic downtown Auburn and Massey’s Super Market, the first Super Market in the region. It had paved parking! Ken Bradford started working there in high school and stayed on as the meat cutter for over forty years.
Mae Yamada on Farming and Internment
Meet Mae Yamada, daughter of Japanese immigrants who, like many, came to this country to make money and return home. They had 12 children and ended up staying! Mae generously shares stories of farm life and internment during World War II.
Fran Calkins on Early Education in Auburn
When Fran arrived in Auburn there was a teacher shortage, so she signed up to teach kindergarten. Remember with Fran the days when a teacher could take a child home for a much needed bath; provide hugs or a lap to sit on.
