Spotlight: Dr. John Francis
After witnessing a devastating oil spill in San Francisco Bay in 1971, Dr. John Francis refused to use any more motorized vehicles and eventually began a 17-year vow of silence as he walked the earth. Through his travels, John Francis raised awareness for environmental protection as a United Nations Environment Program’s Goodwill Ambassador, earned a PhD in Land Resources, and founded his non-profit, Planetwalk. You can learn more about Planetwalk at their website: planetwalk.org. Follow this link for a family friendly TED Talk about John Francis’ experience: TED Talk.
