The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire in 1911 resulted in the gruesome deaths of 146 garment workers, the majority of them young immigrant women. The fire resulted in massive social pressure to improve workplace safety laws and working conditions for women, as well as encouraged the creation of women’s labor unions.
