Interior of the Loggia, c. 1915

Art Nouveau was a style of art, fashion, and architecture that became fashionable in the 1890s. While we may think of Art Nouveau as being pretty lavish today, in the 1890s it was in sharp contrast to the over-the-top ornamentation of the Victorian period. The movement favored natural shapes and the inherent beauty of materials, which resonated with the ideals of the outdoors-loving New Woman.
