Members of the Social Hygiene movement, including noted suffragist and social worker Jane Addams, were especially interested in stopping all forms of sex work, usually through criminalization and harsher sentences. Social hygiene advocates believed sex work spread otherwise preventable disease, and was harmful to the moral fiber of society.
