#Volunteerism

WRVM Collection, Auburn Globe-Republican, August 23, 1918

Letter from Mrs. Krouse, 1918

Volunteerism has deep roots in American society, all the way back to the colonial period. While the idea of “service” or “voluntary work” for men was strongly tied to military service, “service” for women often included making medical supplies (like sewing masks or bandages), or supporting military efforts, like running the rationing offices during WWI.
