The first issue of controversial magazine Birth Control Review positively compared leaders of the birth control movement to Temperance icon Carrie Nation and the “Mother of Suffrage” Susan B. Anthony. The editors of this magazine were jailed for sending birth control information through the mail - a federal offense in 1917.
